Type I
The Aussie
"Has a face like it just heard some bad news. Very reliable though."
Look at a Type I socket and tell Plugbert it doesn't look like a face that just read a bad news headline. Two slanted slots for eyes, a ground slot for a mouth.
Where you'll find it
Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, many Pacific islands, China and Argentina.
Things to know
- Switched sockets. Like the UK, most Australian and Kiwi sockets have an on/off switch. Check it before blaming your charger.
- Insulated pins on modern plugs, since 2005 in Australia.
- Argentina uses Type I with live and neutral reversed compared to Australia. The plug fits; it just doesn't notice.
- China combines Type I with Type A and C in most wall plates, so you'll often have options.
Plugbert's verdict
Dependable, slightly worried-looking, completely fine once you have the adapter.
