Type M
The Big South African
"Type D's much larger cousin. Built for kettles and confidence."
Type M looks like Type D after years of heavy lifting. Same triangle of round pins, much bigger. Used in South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia and Mozambique, and for large appliances in India.
Things to know
- Enormous. A Type M plug is genuinely big. Travel adapters for it are big too.
- South Africa is switching to the newer Type N for new installations, so you'll find both.
- Europlugs fit into many South African sockets, especially newer ones.
Plugbert's verdict
Built like a rugby prop. Bring a Type M adapter and leave room in your bag.
