๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ฎ Kiribati to ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ South AfricaAdapter required. Your plugs are about to go on an adventure.

South Africa uses 230 V and Kiribati uses 240 V, but similar nominal voltages do not guarantee compatibility. Check that your device's input rating covers the destination supply.

What to pack

Plugbert recommends

Type C (Europlug) adapter

You need a plug adapter. Plugs from Kiribati (Type I) don't fit the Type C, D, M and N sockets in South Africa. A Type C (Europlug) adapter fits 2 of the 4 listed socket families there. For grounded devices, get a Type D (Indian 3-pin) adapter for a compatible grounded outlet instead; it does not fit every listed outlet. Socket variants can differ; check the actual outlet and adapter rating.

For equipment requiring earth, choose a Type D (Indian 3-pin) adapter for a compatible grounded outlet. Check its supported inputs and rated load. A two-pin output cannot provide an earth connection.

Tip: a "universal" travel adapter may be useful for several destinations. Check its wall-side plugs, grounding and power limits against your trip.

Plugbert's note on South Africa
South Africa is mid-migration from the chunky Type M to the newer Type N. Expect both. Expect confusion.
